As a facilitator of education, my main purpose is to engrave and segregate learning for each and every student. The learning of today’s students are solely dependent on a numerical approach which in turn requires teachers to modify and identify various learning activities that will approach students’ diverse learning styles, working policies, and abilities using digital tools as well as resources. This statement was emphasized by the NETS for Teachers, 2008. In addition to that, it is seen as a major importance towards my Philosophy of Educational Technology.
The Math Learning Center (2012), establishes the idea of a new pedagogical “DNA” for the 21st Century whereby there are specific skill sets to be taught appropriate for a digital age. They postulated that, “With modern innovation and technology, students look at the world in a completely new way, resulting in a mismatch between teacher DNA and student learning. The video encourages us to consider a new pedagogical DNA, one in which teachers and students are co-constructors of knowledge.” The younger persons especially students or learners in general have a new way of looking at the world, and presently, there is a fundamental mismatch, in some cases, between teachers, their pedagogy and also their students.
Siemens (2004) encapsulates the idea that learning is changing and that we are relying more on technology and the networks that learners create to access knowledge that exists outside of the individual. There is a need for ongoing learning in order to stay current and to connect to other individuals. Education and knowledge revel the diversity of individuals as each student tends to learn in a different way. As we know, learning involves all three networks of the brain: Recognition, Strategic, and Affective. These malleable digital media and Educational Technologies make it easier than ever to provide multiple replacements and therefore modify teaching as well as learning. This 21st century allows for the exploration of learning especially out of the confinements of the classroom.
My role as a teacher facilitator is to present various reading and writing opportunities to my students in order for them to develop an appropriate comprehension of the various concept. Educational Technology can be used to disseminate varying experiences that will allow for personal unearthing and successive learning.
In conclusive approach, it is safe to say that my philosophy of Educational Technology is inclusive of personalized learning, with respect to the diversity of all learners and ensuring that there are opportunities for learning through discovery. It is then my philosophy that Educational Technology is a tool that will in turn effect the opportunities that will differentiate my teaching in order to meet the needs of my students in a student-centered environment.
